How to filter lobby chat in BAR for younger players

The profanity filter widget
A BAR player developed a lobby chat widget that runs incoming messages through an external LLM-based filter. Messages flagged as vulgar get blocked before they reach the screen. The widget runs on an external server, which means network connectivity matters.
Installation
The widget lives in the BAR mod database. Players can locate it by searching the in-game mod list for a chat filter entry. Once subscribed through the lobby, it becomes available in the widget settings menu before a match begins.
Players should enable it under the custom widgets section in game setup. If the widget does not appear, the lobby may need to restart to pick up the new mod.
Alternative approach: disable chat entirely
Some players prefer to turn off lobby chat completely. BAR includes an option to disable in-game messaging. This approach removes the problem entirely rather than filtering it. The tradeoff is losing coordination messages and team communication during matches.
Limitations
The filter widget depends on an external server. If that server goes down or the connection lags, messages may not filter properly. Players should not rely on it as a complete safety solution for very young audiences. Active supervision remains the best approach.
