Modding drone carriers and custom content in BAR

Players experimenting with drone behavior in BAR occasionally find unintended interactions. Here is what happens when you put reclaim or repair drones on a carrier and how to troubleshoot it.

Repair drones on carriers: a known quirk

When you place armada repair or reclaim planes on a carrier and set them to roam, the drones will reclaim and repair each other in a feedback loop. This is unintended behavior. The drone AI does not distinguish between damaged allies and damaged drones from the same carrier group.

If you are building repair carrier mods, expect this interaction and code around it. The base game drone feature receives continued development attention, so working mods built on top of it get priority treatment from developers.

Custom voicelines

The BAR modding community has documented methods for adding custom voice lines to units. The guidance lives in the modding channels with examples and file structure requirements. Check the modding channel pins for the most current approach.

Scav constructor availability

Whether a commander can build scav constructors from the start of a game depends on which tweak or preset is active. Standard lobbies do not include them by default. Custom presets can add them to the commander build list via tweakunits.

Test your mods before sharing

Every mod developer in BAR runs into the same cycle: build, test, find the weird edge case, fix, repeat. The repair-carrier drone loop is exactly the kind of issue that only appears in actual gameplay. Test thoroughly.

[Crd] Gaming actually fulfills a human purpose here — cooperation, mutual upbuilding, fun and striving for greatness together. Instead of random anonymity, you meet, learn from, and enjoy real people.

Modders who test with teams instead of alone find problems faster and ship better content.
