BAR OpenSkill rating floors and choosing constructors

Why your rating might show zero when it is actually negative, and which builder type to pick.

OpenSkill display floor

The match rating display is capped at zero minimum. If your actual OpenSkill is negative 7, you will still see zero on screen. Your rating continues moving behind the scenes. You can check your real rating on the server ratings page at server4.beyondallreason.info/battle/ratings.

Do not assume someone rated at zero is a new player. They might be well below zero.

Constructor type selection

The choice between bot constructors, vehicle constructors, and air constructors depends on the game phase. Early game, the difference between the two ground constructors is minor. Air constructors feel expensive for the build power they provide in the early game, but they excel at dropping structures over terrain or assisting on islands. Use ground constructors for base building and expansion, air constructors for specialized placement.

Keybind issues on Linux

If your keybinds seem wrong or commands fire unexpectedly, try switching layouts back and forth to reset them. On Linux with X11, some UI bugs affect input handling. A fresh reinstall of BAR often resolves persistent keybind problems on that platform.
