Is the server down or is it just you
Before assuming the BAR servers crashed, check whether other players are experiencing the same issue. Ask in chat rooms if anyone else cannot connect. If others are playing normally, the problem is local. Common local causes include firewall blocking the game client, ISP routing issues, or a stale game session that needs a full restart.
A full client restart means closing the launcher completely and reopening it, not just leaving and rejoining a lobby. Sometimes the launcher holds a broken connection state that only a fresh start clears.
Self-hosting BAR game servers
Players who want more control over their games can self-host using Teiserver with SPADS. The teiserver-spads channel contains setup information for running a dedicated server. This option appeals to communities that want persistent lobbies, custom rules, or private tournaments without depending on the public server infrastructure.
Self-hosting requires technical comfort with server administration. The host manages port forwarding, updates, and moderation for their own games. It is not a click-and-run solution, but it provides complete control over the game environment.
Creed of Champions
"The removal of toxicity, the goal of fun and learning, makes for a refreshing spot to play and spend time. It has also made a game with plenty of complexity a bit less daunting to dive into."
