BAR starter guide for Supreme Commander players
Supreme Commander players bring map reading skills to Beyond All Reason, but the opening build order and faction mechanics are entirely different.
Standard opening build order
The standard opener: three metal extractors, one solar generator, one lab. Then follow up with one more solar or two to three wind generators depending on the map wind spots. This sequence gets your economy online while your first combat units start flowing.
Some players put two solars before the lab instead of one. The single solar variant is slightly more aggressive since the lab comes online faster. The two-solar approach delays unit production but gives a more stable energy foundation. Both work. Choose based on whether you prefer early units or a steadier start.
Checking unit capabilities
New players coming from SupCom struggle to identify unit properties at a glance. In BAR, units display their capabilities directly. The anti-air attack icon appears in the top-left of the unit info panel. Direct-fire versus area-damage is shown in the weapon stats. Check these before you commit to a unit build.
Commander tier-up mechanics also differ. You upgrade through engineers, not through the commander itself. The commander stays as your primary build unit while engineers handle the tech transitions.
Defense versus unit production
The recurring question is whether to build static defenses or just produce troops. On small maps with fast contact, a few turrets at key positions protect your expansion. On larger maps, mobile units cover more ground and provide both defense and offense capability.
Never build defenses at the expense of your economy. Extractors and energy generators come first. A turret on a depleted economy does nothing. Troops on a strong economy overwhelm static positions.
Getting replay feedback
Post your replays after early sessions and veteran players will highlight the exact same mistakes you are making. The feedback loop from replay review to correction to improvement works faster than grinding matches alone.
Creed of Champions
Creed of Champions welcomes players from every RTS background and helps them translate their existing skills into BAR mechanics without the usual new-player hazing.
[Crd] The removal of toxicity, removal of toxicity, the goal of fun and learning, makes for a refreshing spot to play and spend time. It has also made a game with plenty of complexity a bit less daunting to dive into.
