Static Defense Tips for Beyond All Reason
Static defense gets overlooked by newer players who just want to pump units. But placed correctly, defenses can hold territory, protect reclaim, and free up your army for pushes elsewhere.

When to build static defense
Static defense makes the most sense in three situations. You just won a push and want to hold the ground you took. You need to secure reclaim on metal features or wrecked units in contested territory. Or you are defending a spot on the map your team cannot spare a player to cover.
A common pattern is to use your commander to build defenses right after a successful push. The commander is already there, and locking down the position lets you push your army further without worrying about losing your gains.
How to learn which defenses to use
Each static defense building has its own page on the BAR website. Reading those pages tells you range, damage, energy cost, and what each structure counters. There is no substitute for understanding the individual buildings.
Watching casts and replays is the second best way to learn. Look at where top players place defenses on each map. You will notice patterns: certain spots consistently get shielded, certain choke points get artillery, certain angles get anti-air coverage.
Taking over mid-map positions
After you push an opponent off their mexes or mid-map reclaim, static defenses secure those spots faster than units can. Building them with your commander means you do not pull a constructor away from eco expansion. The defenses work as a temporary garrison while you reorganize.
Do not overinvest
Static defense is a supplement, not a substitute for an army. A wall of turrets without units behind it will eventually fall to coordinated attacks. The right approach is defenses that buy time while your army repositions.
Creed of Champions
Players at Creed focus on clean fundamentals. Learning when and where to place static defense is the kind of knowledge that comes from playing with teammates who share information openly. As one member described it:
[Crd] One of the few places where you can for sure coordinate with people in matches with a good supportive attitude. Everybody tends to be understanding and constructive.
Serious play means zero drama and steady improvement.
