Air cons look flexible on paper. The metal cost tells a different story. Here is when to use them and when to stick with nanos.

Building an air lab just to produce air constructors is metal inefficient compared to ground constructors. Nanos cost less, move reliably, and do not get shot down over the frontline. For most frontline building work, nanos are the right choice.
Air constructors shine when you need to build something in an isolated location fast. If your ground constructors cannot reach a spot and you need to rebuild a rampart or radar tower quickly across the map, air cons fill that gap. The key word is quickly. Use them for speed, not efficiency.
They also work when you have completely run out of space for ground constructors at your base and need additional building capacity somewhere else.
Air constructors show up on enemy radar and can be shot down easily over contested territory. If the enemy has any anti-air near your target location, sending an air con is likely a waste of metal. Always check for anti-air coverage before committing.
