Finding the commander model

BAR unit model files live in the game repository under the objects3d/Units/ directory. The standard Arm commander model is available at github.com/beyond-all-reason/Beyond-All-Reason/blob/master/objects3d/Units/armcom.s3o. Other unit models follow the same naming convention inside that folder.

These S3O files are the Spring Engine 3D Object format. They can be downloaded directly from the repository without installing the full game. Each faction has its own commander model with different visual design.

Importing S3O files into Blender

Blender does not read S3O files natively. You need the S3O import/export plugin for Blender. The SpringRTS community maintains a Blender addon that handles S3O files alongside other game asset formats.

After installing the addon, use File Import S3O to bring the commander model into Blender. The mesh loads with its original materials. You can then modify, retexture, or extract parts for use in other projects.

Note that BAR models are covered by the game license. Using them in separate games requires checking the BAR licensing terms and potentially getting permission from the original asset authors.
