BAR Chevron Rating: Why Bot Games Do Not Count and What New Players Need to Know

New BAR players often stress about their chevron level and worry about ruining games. Here is how the rating system actually works.

Why bot games do not count toward chevron

Playing against AI bots in BAR does not affect your chevron rating. The rating system only tracks matches against other human players. This is intentional. Bot games let players learn the controls, practice build orders, and test unit matchups without pressure.

Many new players worry that they cannot improve their rating without jumping straight into ranked matches against humans. Bot games are still valuable practice. They build the mechanical skills that make human matches less overwhelming.

How rating updates work

BAR ratings recalculate at set intervals throughout the day. Match results do not update the instant the game ends. You may need to log out and back in, or wait for the next recalculation window, to see your chevron change.

The battle ratings page on the BAR server also occasionally experiences sync delays. If your recent matches are not showing, the site is likely catching up. This happens periodically and resolves on its own.

The anxiety of playing against humans

Every new player has the same fear: jumping into a match and being too weak to help the team. The impulse is to stay in bot lobbies forever. That is a trap. You only improve by playing real matches.

Most BAR players understand what it looks like to be new. Only a fraction of the active playerbase is actually hostile. The rest remember being new themselves. If things go wrong, ask questions in chat after the game. Most teammates are willing to explain what went sideways.

Finding patient teammates

If the random queue feels too harsh, look for organised team play. Many groups specifically welcome lower-chevron players and run teaching games. Playing alongside experienced teammates who communicate takes the pressure off while the fundamentals click.

Your chevron level does not define your worth as a player. Everyone started at zero. The players who improve fastest are the ones willing to lose a few games early on rather than hiding from competition entirely.

Creed of Champions

Creed of Champions was built for exactly this situation. Players who want to learn BAR without getting flamed for being new find a supportive environment. Training sessions pair beginners with experienced members who walk through decisions in real time. Nobody gets exiled for making rookie mistakes.
