Debug commands in BAR cover a range of map and gameplay testing options including inverted maps. Here is what is available and where to find the reference.
The invertmap command flips the height map around a specified point or the water level. Syntax uses triangular brackets for required values and square brackets for optional ones. Multiple commands separate by commas.
invertmap [height] inverts around a specific height point. Using invertmap ["wet"] inverts around the water level, or zero. If you leave the value unspecified, it uses the highest elevation on the map as the pivot.
The full list of debug commands for map testing lives in the modding channels. If you are looking for them and feel lost, someone can point you to the reference. The commands cover terrain manipulation, unit spawning, and game rule overrides.
The old Spring RTS wiki at springrts.com/wiki is no longer available. BAR development discussions moved to GitHub. Infrastructure issues are tracked at the beyond-all-reason/infrastructure repository on GitHub where you can find migration notes and updated documentation.
Inverting a map creates entirely new gameplay patterns. Areas that were defensible high ground become low points. Water features reverse. Trying it out reveals weaknesses in map balance you would never notice otherwise.
[Crd] CreEd of Champions rekindled my joy in Beyond All Reason. I had burned out on the game, and the friendly, no-toxicity environment caused me to start enjoying it again.
