How to install BAR on Linux when the flatpak fails

BAR runs on Linux through flatpak. Some players hit roadblocks during installation. Here are the common fixes.

Standard flatpak install

The official Linux install route uses flatpak. Install flatpak through your system package manager, add the BAR flatpak repository, then install the game. Most Ubuntu and Debian users complete this without issue.

Flatpak not appearing after install

If the application does not show up after flatpak install completes, try upgrading flatpak itself and updating the system package manager repositories. Then reinstall the BAR flatpak.

Some systems need the flatpak daemon restarted after the first install. A simple reboot handles this for most users.

Missing libopenal1

Ubuntu users sometimes hit a missing libopenal1 error. When sudo apt install libopenal1 cannot locate the package, flatpak is the workaround. The flatpak bundles its own Audio OpenAL library.

Chrome blocking download

Chrome blocks the installer by default as an unverified file. Go to browser downloads, find the installer, and click allow. The file is safe and is just not signed with a Chrome-trusted certificate.
