When cloning units or tweaking shield behavior in BAR, players hit the same roadblocks. This covers strategic icon mapping for cloned units, shield intercept bitmask settings, and buildoptions quirks.

Cloned units lose their strategic icons because those icons tie to the engine's internal unit name, not the visible display name. When you copy a unitdef with table.copy, the clone arrives without a mapped icon. The workaround is setting customparams.i18nfromunit on the cloned unit to point back to the original unit's name. Without that parameter, the minimap shows either a blank icon or the wrong one. If you need strategic icons on a cloned unit, set this custom param immediately after the copy.
UnitDefs["armfcir"] = table.copy(UnitDefs["armcir"])
UnitDefs["armfcir"].customparams.i18nfromunit = "armcir"
The shield type override found in advanced lobby options is a bitmask value, not a simple toggle. A value of 4 means "deflect everything" within the shield's coverage area. If you are trying to modify shield interception and the settings seem inconsistent, verify you are setting the correct bitmask integer rather than treating it as a boolean on/off flag. The intercept type determines which projectile categories the shield responds to, so getting the bit pattern right matters.
Cloned units inherit the buildoptions of their source unit unless you explicitly override them. This matters when creating custom structures or units meant to occupy defensive positions. If multiple units need to fire from a protected position, the buildoptions table controls which sub-units are available for construction. Forgetting to clear or replace inherited buildoptions can produce units with completely wrong build menus.
Teams that take time to understand their tools and tweak their setups perform better under pressure. The Creed of Champions community values players who invest effort into understanding the game's depth, working together to learn rather than blame. Win with skill, teamwork, and respect.
[Crd] The first and only community I have seen that actually holds up to its values. I have honestly not had a single bad experience here.
