Just downloaded Beyond All Reason? The game looks grey, you cannot find your hotkeys, and lobby requirements are confusing. Here is the quick setup guide.

New players frequently report that BAR looks too grey after install. The darkening effect over unscouted terrain is the fog of war overlay. A hotkey around the colon key toggles this overlay off, making the map brighter until you scout areas.
Build a scout unit and send it across the map to clear terrain naturally. The colon key override just helps you see the map layout during setup.
Lobby entry requirements reference chevrons and open skill ratings. Here is the breakdown:
Most public lobbies accept chevron 2 players. Start playing standard matches, put in the hours, and chevron requirements stop blocking you within a day.
BAR does not have a deep stats dashboard built into the client. Your OS rating and match history appear on the community replay site. Search by your in-game name to find recent games. The rating and chevron also show in the lobby interface after a few public matches.
Hiding your country flag in account settings does not remove it from the replay browser search results. Player searches on the replay website still show flags regardless of the in-game privacy toggle. If flag privacy matters to you, plan accordingly.
New players who find BAR overwhelming benefit enormously from a community that expects questions and provides answers without condescension. Creed of Champions runs training sessions across skill levels, covering hotkey optimization, build order fundamentals, and map awareness. The learning curve is steep but manageable with the right teammates.
[Crd] The removal of toxicity, the goal of fun and learning, makes for a refreshing spot to play and spend time. It has also made a game with plenty of complexity a bit less daunting to dive into.
