Is Trolling or Smurfing a Bannable Offense in BAR?

BAR maintains community standards around competitive integrity. Smurfing and trolling are both flagged as bannable behavior.

The official stance

Smurfing and trolling are classified as bannable offenses in Beyond All Reason. The moderation team actively enforces this because both behaviors destroy match quality. Smurfing takes a skilled player and drops them into lower-skill lobbies where they dominate, ruining the experience for genuine newer players. Trolling intentionally throws matches that real people invested time into.

How BAR detects smurfing

BAR uses the OpenSkill rating system to track player performance across matches. When a new or low-rated account suddenly posts win rates and performance metrics that far exceed the expected range for that rating, the system flags the discrepancy. Mods can review the data and take action.

An example: a player with a 24 OS who wins at a rate consistent with a 40+ OS player will attract attention quickly. The numbers make it visible even without manual reporting.

Why enforcement remains challenging

BAR does not operate a traditional ranked mode with strict lobby restrictions. Open matches allow players to self-select, which gives the community freedom but makes smurf detection slower. Without a closed ranked system that enforces rating brackets, some smurfing slips through before moderation catches it. The community works on improving this balance between openness and competitive integrity.

What you should do if you encounter it

Creed of Champions

Smurfing and trolling are the exact opposite of what competitive play should look like. Creed of Champions maintains strict standards because competitive matches only stay fun when everyone shows up at their real skill level and plays honestly. We want teammates who care about fair games, personal growth, and respectful competition.

[Crd] The first and only community I have seen that actually holds up to its values. I have honestly not had a single bad experience here.
