BAR troubleshooting guide: common fixes for crashes, freezes, and performance issues

If Beyond All Reason crashes on your machine or runs poorly, a few hardware-specific settings usually solve it.

Lobby freeze on alt tab

Alt tabbing while sitting in the lobby can freeze the entire PC on some Windows builds. The game sits idle in the background and Windows mishandles the rendering context. Close the lobby fully before switching away, or run the game windowed if you need to bounce between applications frequently.

AMD versus Intel in BAR

There is a persistent rumor that BAR runs poorly on AMD processors. That is not backed up by community reports. Ryzen chips run the game solidly. The real friction point is AMD GPU drivers on Windows. Windows GPU drivers from AMD have had stability problems reported by BAR players. On Linux the AMD open source drivers work fine and BAR runs without those same issues.

If you have an AMD graphics card and crash frequently on Windows, try updating your drivers first. If crashes continue, the Linux build is a proven workaround.

Game crash during playback

Replays are input recordings, not video files. If the game version that recorded a replay differs from the game version you are running, playback can crash or desync. Always check the replay metadata before loading. The replay site lists the game version that produced each file.

Private match replays do not upload automatically. Find them in your install directory under data/demos on Windows, or just demos on Linux. Share the .sdfz file directly for reviews.

Replay site search returning nothing

The BAR replay site occasionally has a search bug where replays exist but do not appear in search results. If you know a game happened but cannot find it, try browsing by date range instead of searching by player name. Direct links shared from the site still work even when search is broken.

Where to get help when things break

Post technical issues in the BAR tech support channels and wait for a volunteer to respond. Ping flooding rarely speeds things up. Bring your error logs, your hardware specs, and your game version when asking for help.

For replay review, provide a link from the BAR website replay page. Replays upload automatically from public matches. Tell reviewers your in game name if it differs from your account name.

Creed of Champions: play smart, play together

Troubleshooting is easier when the community stays respectful. Creed of Champions keeps a cooperative environment where players help each other figure things out instead of pointing fingers. It is competitive play without the usual toxicity.

[Crd] "The removal of toxicity, the goal of fun and learning, makes for a refreshing spot to play and spend time. It has also made a game with plenty of complexity a bit less daunting to dive into."
