Understanding tweakdefs Structure

Tweakdefs in Beyond AllReason contain nested subtables that modify unit behavior, weapon stats, and visual parameters. When creating new tweakdefs, the required subtables must follow the game's expected hierarchy or the changes will silently fail.

Weapon definitions reference damage, range, reload time, and projectile properties. Custom params allow modders to add faction-specific behaviors or special weapon interactions without changing core game files.

Range and Balance Considerations

Range tweaks are the most common balance adjustment because they directly affect engagement distances. Increasing weapon range by even a few units changes how fights play out across the map.

When testing range changes, verify that the weapon's visible range indicator matches the actual firing range. Mismatches between displayed and effective range create confusing player experience.
