Beyond All Reason has movement commands that do not show up in the in-game help menu. Here is what each one does and when to use them.

The formation command lines units up automatically. Longer-range units move to the back of the formation, keeping them protected during advances. All units travel at the speed of the slowest member, which guarantees nothing gets left behind during pushes.
Be careful with rocko units. Their long-range advantage gets wasted when the formation shoves them behind shorter units.
Add shift to a movement command to keep units in their current relative positions. Instead of reorganizing, the group maintains whatever layout it had when selected. They still move at the slowest unit speed but keep spatial cohesion. This matters when you have already positioned units optimally and just need to relocate them without reordering.

Try each command in a skirmish game with no opponents. Select a mixed army, issue different move types, and watch how units respond. The muscle memory from practicing this pays off immediately in live games where positioning mistakes cost entire battles.
