BAR ships with a new default keybind setup, but players coming from older Spring RTS games can switch back to the legacy keybinding preset in seconds.

If G for guard and P for patrol feels more natural to you, you are not stuck with the new defaults. Open the settings menu and change your keybind preset to Legacy. That restores the classic Spring era controls for movement, patrol routes, and unit selection.
Some common bindings shift entirely. Ctrl Z selects all units of the currently selected type, matching what old school Spring players expect. Tab and space bar statistics moved to a clickable UI element at the top of the screen, but you can reassign them through the keybinding editor if needed.
Beyond the preset swap, the keybinding editor lets you remap any action. If one specific key is bothering you, change just that one. The editor shows conflicts so you do not accidentally wire two commands to the same button.
Be warned that some UI widgets expect the default layout. Custom keybinds work fine for combat and economy commands, but heavy UI customization can occasionally cause unexpected behavior. The legacy preset is the safest switch for most returning players.
Speaking of controls, intrusion detectors exist in BAR, sometimes called seismic detectors in the game lore. Every faction has access to them. They detect moving units through ground vibrations, which means they work through terrain that blocks radar entirely. Cliffs and hills will not hide a moving army from these detectors.
They do not catch stationary units though. A parked commander or a static defense line stays invisible to seismic detection. Use them alongside regular radar for complete coverage.
Once your keybinds feel natural, you will want to track your match history and win rate. Log into the BAR server website with your account for the most current stats. Third party tracking sites like Gex and BAR Stats offer deeper breakdowns if you want to dig into faction performance and game length preferences.
Customizing your controls makes the difference between fighting the interface and playing the game. Find what works, lock it in, and focus your attention on the battlefield. Players who learn together in supportive environments improve faster. Creed of Champions runs regular training sessions and cooperative gameplay where you can practice with experienced teammates.
[Crd] Creed of Champions is a great place to learn and play BAR in a friendly atmosphere. Training sessions, team gameplay, even some non BAR stuff. Large cross section of abilities, time zones, and game mode interests.
