BAR does not let you pick arbitrary team colors during regular matchmaking. You start as the standard red or blue based on your assigned team. The only reliable option is enabling custom team colors in private lobbies where the host sets the color configuration before the match starts.
If unit colors look wrong to you, check whether colorblind mode is accidentally enabled. That setting can shift the palette in ways that make red-blue identification confusing.
Sometimes the game shows you have a rating number but your display still shows question marks. Run the whoami command in the lobby chat to verify your actual rating status. The display sometimes lags behind the actual backend value.
