Why does my BAR rating go down after a win

The math behind rating drops after wins

A rating drop after a win feels wrong, but OpenSkill explains it. Rating changes reflect the average of recent match outcomes. If the last five games produced three losses and two wins, the system continues processing that data. A win can temporarily drag the calculated average downward as older losses cycle through the formula.

Server updates do not hit instantly either. Rating pages show cached values that refresh on a schedule. A win registers immediately in the match record, but the displayed rating catches up later.

Where to check rating details

The ratings page at server4.beyondallreason.info/battle/ratings shows full match history and rating change breakdown. Each game lists the points gained or lost, making it easy to trace why numbers moved the way they did.

Keeping perspective on rating

Obsessing over rating creates a miserable way to play BAR. The system exists to group players of similar skill together. It works better when players focus on improving mechanics and decision-making rather than watching a number. Better play produces better rating naturally, but chasing rating directly backfires.

What players say about the BAR community

"Before discovering Creed, I was thinking the only thing that separates BAR from the perfect RTS is a friendly and safe social environment for new players to learn and feel included." — [Crd] member review
