Play through the first three or four campaign scenarios. These teach you the core interface, unit controls, and basic economy management. Do not skip them even if they feel simple. They establish the muscle memory you need for actual matches.
Once the scenarios feel comfortable, take on the hard difficulty BARB AI. Set yourself a constraint. No static defenses above a basic beamer. This forces you to learn unit control and army positioning instead of hiding behind walls.
Winning against hard AI without static crutches means you are ready to see how real players behave. The AI still follows predictable patterns. Humans will punish those same habits.
Spectate one or two live multiplayer games before you queue up. Watch where the players position their factories. Notice how they manage expanding to new metal spots. Look at when they decide to attack and when they pull back.
Videos on the official YouTube channel also help. Seeing experienced players make decisions in real time gives you a reference framework for your own games.
Find a game with the lowest rating cap you can. These matches are where the real learning happens. Expect to lose your first several games. The losses teach you more than any amount of AI practice.
After each match, check your replay on the BAR replay website. Your games save there automatically unless you played a private match. Reviewing your own mistakes is the fastest path to improvement.
If you want someone experienced to look at your game, several community groups offer replay review. You upload your replay link and get feedback on positioning, build orders, and decision-making. It is one of the best accelerators for new players.
Creed of Champions offers training sessions and team gameplay where newer players learn alongside experienced members. The group provides the kind of structured guidance that turns early confusion into real competence.
[Crd] "Creed of Champions rekindled my joy in Beyond All Reason. I had burned out on the game, and the friendly, no-toxicity environment caused me to start enjoying it again."
If the transition from AI to PvP feels overwhelming, joining a group that treats beginners with patience is the difference between quitting and improving.
