The tweakunits modoption lets you adjust unit stats through the lobby without touching game files. Here is why that matters and how to use it.
Instead of editing Lua definition files directly, the tweakunits modoption applies balance changes when the match hosts. You set your modifiers in the lobby, pick your adjustments, and everyone joins with the same rules applied. No custom .sdz files to distribute. No mismatched versions causing desyncs. Just the base game with a set of overrides applied cleanly at load time.
The old way to balance-tweak BAR meant maintaining your own mod branch. That meant every update required a rebase. Tweakunits eliminates that tax. The community uses a shared Google form to propose changes and test results. When something works, it gets folded into the tweakunits options. When it does not, nobody wasted a week building a custom mod. It is low-friction balance iteration.
Join a lobby, check the modoptions panel for tweakunits entries. Adjust what you need, host up, and everyone playing with tweakunits enabled gets the same values. If numbers feel off, lobby in again and change them. The whole loop takes seconds instead of the hours that custom mod maintenance used to require.
"It is so easy to get on with everyone and there is zero toxicity. Just fun games of BAR which can have quite a toxic community usually."
