Using Wolverines to Counter Static Defenses and Rocketbots in BAR

Wolverines are one of the more reliable tools for cracking static defenses and dealing with rocketbot spam when used at the right time and in the right numbers.

Why wolverines work against static defenses

Wolverines bring concentrated burst damage that punches through static structures faster than most early-game units can manage. Their main job in a fight is to open a lane for your supporting forces to move through.

Use them in a combined force rather than alone. Send wolverines to delete the static threat while your other units follow behind to handle whatever the enemy sends to defend it.

Dealing with rocketbot spam

Rocketbot spam used to be stronger than it is now. Balance changes have reduced its effectiveness as a standalone strategy, but it still shows up and still causes problems if nobody prepares for it.

Wolverines help here because their damage profile is effective against the lighter armor rocketbots carry. If you spot a opponent committing hard to rocketbots early, building wolverines as a response is usually the right call. Mix them with support units that can absorb incoming fire while the wolverines deal damage from behind.

Execution tips

A few things separate effective wolverine attacks from wasteful ones:

  • Target priority. Send them straight at the highest-value static structure first. Do not let them wander into general combat if there is a specific target they need to remove.
  • Timing matters. Wolverines are more valuable early and mid-game. By late game, heavier units typically handle static defenses more efficiently.
  • Support them. Wolverines are not front-line fighters. Pair them with something that can draw fire while they focus on the structure or rocketbots.
  • Know when not to build them. If the opponent has no static defenses and is not spamming rocketbots, your constructors and economy probably need those metal more elsewhere.

Reading the situation

Scouting tells you whether wolverines are worth building. If you see static defenses going up near a expansion point or rocketbots massing in the enemy base, wolverines answer both problems. If neither threat exists, skip them.

The key is not to build wolverines reflexively. Build them as a direct response to something you actually see on the map.
